FDM
(Fused Deposition Modeling)
FDM is the most common and accessible type of 3D printing. This technology works by heating a plastic filament and extruding it, layer by layer, through a nozzle to build your object from the bottom up. It's often compared to a computer-controlled hot glue gun. FDM is a great choice for general-purpose prototypes, functional parts, and large-scale models where affordability and strength are the primary concerns. The parts have visible layer lines, and the surface finish is not as smooth as other methods, but they are durable and cost-effective.
DLP
(Digital Light Processing)
DLP is a type of resin-based 3D printing that uses a digital projector to cure liquid resin. Unlike FDM which builds line by line, DLP projects an entire layer of the object at once, which makes it significantly faster for models with complex details or many small parts. This process is known for producing incredibly high-resolution parts with very smooth surfaces, making it ideal for applications like dental models, jewelry, or detailed miniatures. While DLP printers and their materials are generally more expensive than FDM, the exceptional precision and surface quality they provide are often worth the investment for those projects.
